This museum provides a window into the daily lives of the pioneers. The large collection of artifacts (most donated by descendents of the area's early settlers) range from a working loom to guns to a mortician's tools. Most everything is displayed in period rooms, including a shop, a house, and a doctor's office.

“Old, small, funky” and maybe the “best blues/sorta-blues” joint on the Westside, this “been-around-forever” SaMo club serves up other forms too (jazz, R&B, hip-hop, spoken word, even burlesque), but you’ll still find “hot licks” aplenty; drinks are “pretty cheap” and the crowd is “easygoing” (though “socializing is tough” during performances), and if the “decor ain’t much – the music you can’t...

Open since 1931, this Santa Monica bastion of blues claims to be the oldest blues club in Los Angeles. Dark and sexy like a blues club should be, you can always rely on a good local band playing here; many famous musicians have passed through as well, including Albert King and Bonnie Raitt. Tip: If you get the chance to catch local favorites Café R&B or the Toledo Show, go for it! The mostly...

Contemporary American work is the focus at the oldest nonprofit craft organization in the country. The exquisite jewelry, furniture, home accessories, glass, ceramics, and fiber art range from practical to purely decorative; the second floor holds a gallery that mounts four shows a year. The society also sponsors CraftBoston (www.craftboston.org), a prestigious juried show that takes place in...

Once the 30's' hottest jazz/supper club, now bringing dependable-to-great live blues n' funk in hot Depression decor. Burlesque, blues, and funk breakdowns transport older crowd who appreciate good live music back to the Rat Pack days and usually impresses youngsters who never heard of "jazz," with its come-hither looks. Even an after-work drink is given serious glam during happy hour. Sexy and...

This is sick and I like it! They have a great bar manned by great tenders and they also have a wicked song list to play, they never disappoint.

When I lived in Santa Monica, I used to frequent Harvelle's as much as I could. Always had a great experience. They always have some of the top blues entertainers in the industry. The place is lively, but very tiny, so if you go on a weekend night, go early or you may not get in.
