“Great beer, BETTER food”

Golden Road

I originally reviewed this business as having "good beer, bad food" but I've been back a couple times recently and I can honestly saw the food is WAY better. They've also done a lot with their property and added patio seating and I think I saw a second bar outside. 5 stars.

Old review:

Nice atmosphere and pretty good prices. Most beers brewed by Golden Road are around $5, while the other microbrews are $7. However, the food is just not very good. This place just opened recently, so hopefully they'll improve the food.

“Awesome home cookin'”

Not A Burger Stand
Great food, great service. It feels like stepping into a restaurant from the South. They cook a batch of ribs twice a month which are delicious.

Check them out!

“Bad the first time, great the second”

Orochon Ramen
I visited the first weekend or so that Orochon opened and the service and food was AWFUL. I just visited almost two years later and I can say that they have redeemed themselves. Food is now good, and service is better.

“Best Used Bookstore in the Area”

Book Castle-Movie World
Burbank 91502 Location When I don't want to read a novel on my Kindle, I always walk to this shop to find the book in print. The store is small, but there are literally stacks of books every where.

“Fresh food at a fair price”

Trader Joe's
I buy most of my groceries from this Trader Joe's now. The food is so fresh and the employees are very friendly. As mentioned in a previous review, parking is tight, but I think that is common among most Trader Joe's stores (at least in LA).

“Huge selection”

Swain's has a large selection of art supplies to choose from. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I bought an oil pastel set at a fair price.

“Great Service”

Lube Center Inc
Really happy with this place. The staff was friendly and I only waited ~20 minutes for my oil to be changed. The waiting room has AC and three computers that customers can use to browse the Internet.

“Bowling is fun, but check out the bar”

Pickwick Gardens-Premier
Went here this past Saturday and decided to visit the bar for the first time. The bar has WAY too many seats for the amount of people that show up. The room looks sort of looks like the bar from Cheers. Tony, the bartender, is like a character from a Stanley Kubrick film. He's super nice and confident in his mixology knowledge, but really has no idea what the hell he's talking about, which makes him a joy to be around.

After asking for a few cocktails he couldn't make (no bitters, certain mixer, etc), I asked for a double of rum and coke. Before he made the drink, I quickly asked to see what the well rum was, and Tony looked kind of shocked that I would even ask this question. He proceeded to hold up a bottle of Bacardi with a facial expression of "what's wrong with this?" and continued making my drink.

There were only two other people in the bar with us, and Tony got pretty mad when we tried to order our food from the bar. So we had to walk into the arcade room, order all of our chicken fingers (we were craving greasy food), and come back to the bar.

It's an awful bar, but Tony is quite entertaining. The prices are really cheap and this place is right by my apartment, so I'm sure I'll be back some time.

“Good food and drinks, OK atmopshere”

Kitchen 24
I've been here four or five times since my move. They've got a pretty good variety of foods, but most everything feels heavy. Their happy hour is from 8pm-11pm on weekdays, which is usually the only time I'll buy a drink. If you're driving here, don't. Parking is the biggest problem here. K24 does $10 valet parking, and there's a lot across the street that advertises $5, but I think it's just a minimum.

The only thing that really bugs me about this place is the crowd some times. Whenever I go with just one other person, we seem to always get stuck at a little table in the corner, right beside some loudmouth girl talking about how she used to drink because of depression, but now she drinks because she's happy and enjoys making out with other girls when drunk. Sigh...oh well.

“So tasty!”

Which Wich
Burbank 91502 Location I'm really happy that Burbank has a Which Wich now! I prefer this place over Subway, even if it is a little more expensive. Everything tastes fresher and you get to mark what you want on the paper bag instead of having to stand in line and tell the employee what to put on your sandwich. You have to write your name on the bag also, so that they can call for you when it's ready. I always write something like "Batman." There's also a blank spot on the back of the bag to draw pictures.

“Not the best sushi in Burbank”

Sushi Dake
This place is alright, but it's way too expensive for the quality of sushi you get. The sticky rice on the rolls just fall apart. The tuna they use just isn't that good either. Hot tea here isn't complimentary, so be prepared to pay extra for that.

“Awesome food and beer”

Tony's Darts Away
Went here this weekend with a few friends. We had to wait a while for the larger table to open up, but it was worth the wait. I tried the Old #38 Stout and Pliny the Elder for the first time. Both were very good, but I liked the stout best. If you go here, you HAVE to get the sweet potato fries. They are delicious and I ate about one whole basket by myself.

The only downside to this bar is how crowded it gets on the weekends. So if you're coming here with friends, it might be best to show up a tad bit early if you want to sit down.

“Decent wings and beer”

Big Wangs
Tagged along with my friend since she was hungry. I ate some of the Alfredo fries and a couple of lemon pepper chicken wings. I started with a Guinness, which was $6 and served in a small glass. After that, I just stuck to their light lagers, which come in larger glasses and are fairly priced.

If you like hanging out at sports bars to catch a game and drink beer, then this is the place for you. Big Wangs isn't really my cup of tea, but I can't deny that the food was pretty tasty. Although, I may have to come back to get one of the steins of beer they sell.

“Tasty food and great for large parties”

O-Dae San Restaurant
I had never eaten KBBQ before going, and I loved it! You grill whatever food you order. I had pork belly, octopus thingies, and lots of other stuff. I'm surprised we didn't clear their stock of Soju. The beer they serve is tasty too.

We had a party of about 25-30 people, and they were able to seat us (with reservation) with no problem. Except for having to take a random stranger home that we met that night (too much booze), it was a fun night!

“Not too fresh, but donuts are donuts”

Winchell's Donut House
I had four pancakes at Denny's the other night, and felt like the perfect dessert was four donuts. So my friend and I went to Winchell's for the first time. The donuts weren't very fresh, but still tasty. The employee didn't speak very good English, and apparently I kept asking for donuts he didn't have, but overall I would say it was a good experience and satisfied my craving. Four pancakes and four donuts...never again.

“Bad coffee, good atmosphere”

Last night I was trying to work on some code, but kept getting distracted by season three of Mad Men (good show, I know). I decided I needed to get out of the apartment for some caffeine and motivation.

I only drink black coffee, and Starbucks coffee just makes me go blind and fills me with the urge to beat small children, but they do have free wifi here. I also got a lot of coding done. The only thing I hate about this place, other than the diarrhea coffee, is that they close at 9:30.

“Too pricey for me”

Burbank Bike Shop
I was ignored by the staff while waiting to be helped. I don't mind waiting, but I'd like to know I exist when walking into a store for the first time.

I bought a few things that I needed for my daily bike ride to work, but I should have just ordered them online. Way too expensive for me. I like supporting local business and all, but next time I'm going to grab my parts off of Amazon.

“Expensive, mediocre food”

I went here just to meet some friends of a friend. I looked at the menu beforehand, and wasn't looking forward to paying the prices I saw online. This is sort of a dressy place, but I wore jeans, a nice plaid shirt, and tennis shoes without getting any odd looks.

The drinks are priced ridiculously high. Draft beers were ~$9 and cocktails ~$14. I chose to stick with water, as we were planning to goto a bar afterwards. The dishes are all small (and expensive) servings, because the restaurant encourages your table to share with one another. Here is the menu:

The food was OK, but I just couldn't enjoy it very much considering the price. It's not really my type of place to eat, but I'm sure other people enjoy it a lot. I'd rather go to Knight Restaurant in Burbank for cheaper, tastier, and larger servings when I'm craving Mediterranean food.

“Pretty good bang for your buck”

Miyako Japanese Sushi Roll
I went here with a friend not feeling very hungry, so I figured I'd go with their Udon, which was almost $6. The bowl was *huge* and it had plenty of noodles. I think I finished a little over half of the bowl before I had to give up because I was so full. I'll be back when I've got more of an appetite, because considering how large the serving of Udon was, it's pretty much worth the price.
