Singapores Banana Leaf is a great place to eat at when you are in the Farmer's Market. It's very popular and there are only a few seats but the wait is worth it. I usually go for spicy noodles, mee goreng or a curry puff and wash it down with a lime aid. The prices are very good and the cuisine is different enough so that you never get bored (they have a lot of specials, too.)
I really try to like this place. Maybe because my favorite Indo-Asian restaurant is 40 miles away and I'm willing to settle for coconut milk and lemongrass boiled together when I have a real craving. The roti chanai is edible, but it's the same frozen packaged stuff you can get in any thai supermarket. The chicken curry gravy served with it is bland. The laksa is watery, and often overloaded with useless ingredients like bean sprouts. Tragic, really, since street vendors in Asia work with so much less and turn out much better results.
The food here is more Indonesian in style than Chinese. Yummy Laksa, Gado Gado and Nasi Goreng! All dishes are made to order so it's not fast food.
